Explore the Collection
Wollongong City Council began collecting art works from local art prize exhibitions with the assistance of the Wollongong Art Purchase Committee in 1956. These works, along with the Bob Sredersas Gift, formed the city’s Art Collection when Wollongong Art Gallery was opened in 1978.
Today the Wollongong Art Gallery Collection comprises 2,969 works spanning across a diverse range of objects from Neolithic pots in the Mann-Tatlow Collection of Asian Art to Colonial and Early Australian Art from 1831, Indigenous Art from 1950 and Contemporary Art from 1960.
Wollongong Art Gallery Friends
Wollongong Art Gallery Friends is a vital part of the social life of the Gallery. The major objectives of the Friends are to stimulate, educate and sustain public interests in the Gallery.
One of the Friends key goals is to support the enhancement of the link between the Gallery and the Wollongong community.
The Friends is open to all members of the public and is a great way to enhance your gallery experience, to meet new people and make new friends. The Friends are proudly sponsored by Tyrrell Wines and the Novotel Wollongong.
