Born of rugged landscape, where mountains tower above stormy seas, Coal Coast Brewing Co. was developed with a simple philosophy, brew great beer that reflects the stories of the raw environment that we live, love and play in.
The people of the Coal Coast have always felt the magnetic pull of the ocean and the fertile properties of its mystical backdrop, the escarpment.
Shipwrecked sailors at Coalcliff (1897) first discovered coal, signalling the beginning of an economy defining industry for Australia, which continues today. The Coal Mining history here is long, characteristically tough and, at times, heartbreakingly tragic.
Legend has it that in the early days local coal miners would squirrel dynamite down their pants and blast the rock shelves below the escarpment, creating sea pools to soak their weary, blackened bodies after long shifts underground.
So when you are next dangling your feet in one of the ocean pools, dotted along this incredible coastline, hopefully enjoying one of our tinnies, give a thought to the ingenuity of those cheeky buggers.
