Where To Take Your Pooch For Some Fresh Air And Exercise In The Illawarra

Not only are we the luckiest ducks for living in the Illawarra but so are our four-legged friends!

We are BLESSED with an abundance of local dog-friendly parks and beaches and if you’re looking for somewhere to head out with your doggo, here’s a list of dog-friendly parks and beaches across the Illawarra to take your pooch for some fresh air, frisbee throwing, ball chasing and furry fun!

Dog-friendly parks and beaches in the Wollongong LGA

Dog-friendly Beaches in Wollongong, Illawarra

 

Off-leash beach areas in the Wollongong LGA are split into green, orange and red zones.

Red is a no go at any time.

Dogs can visit orange zone beaches in summer [start of September school holidays to Anzac Day] before 9am and after 6pm, and in winter before 9am and after 4pm.

Dogs can go off-leash at any time in a green zone BUT they must be on a leash going to or from a green zone.

Dogs are prohibited at beaches in the Shellharbour LGA but there are some dog parks for our four-legged to run around in.

And of course, you can walk your pupper on-leash. We love wandering around Lake Illawarra and heading up to Blackbutt Reserve for some two-legged and four-legged exercise.

Off-leash areas are mainly beach side in the Kiama area and a dog agility park too.

There are some key rules around where dogs are and aren’t allowed both off-leash and on. Check them out on Kiama Municipal Council’s website.

Remember to follow signage and any council rules and regs [and pick up the pooooooo!] .
