Where did the blue sky gooooo?
It’s been such a gorgeous week, but let’s roll with the grey clouds and buckets of rain, shall we. We can work with that if we must! Check out this Guide To Rainy Days For Kids for some ideas, plus read on below, and check out our events calendar for ways to have fun, outta the rain!
Indoor Christmas Market
Well, luckily for us Illawarra’s Indoor Christmas Mega Market is, well, indoors! 125 stalls and counting! FREE photos with Santa, gorgeous carols, Christmassy craft for kids, food – it’s got the works. And did we mention it’s indoors? Here’s a list of all the market action on this weekend.
Get snap happy
This wet weekend will be the perfect opportunity to grab your Santa photos. Here’s a handy guide to help you choose where, from Santa Selfies in Kiama, Santa pics for pets, to sensitive-Santa photo opps that are sensory-friendly for kids with additional needs.
Eat & drink
Not sure what to do this weekend? We always find food helps! Check out our latest fave; Japanese cuisine – we even created this handy guide to enjoying Japanese in the Illawarra. Rainy days are also great for finding a cosy stool at one of our local wineries or breweries.
Go Retro
We can’t go past a boogie to some old-school tunes. The Retro Night – DJ OC at Five Islands Hotel has caught our eye. Sounds like a fun way to escape the rain!
Party With Dapto Hotel
Hip hip hooray to Dapto Hotel for its 70th birthday. Sounds like a milestone worthy of a party with giveaways, free sausage sizzle and general merriment at this iconic Dapto venue. Grab the details here.
Joslyn Bosoms’ night of fun
More fun in Dapto awaits with a show guaranteed for great laughs, sing-a-long, drag, comedy and even more fun and fab things. Grab the details and tickets here.
Belly dance and drumming fun
The Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre will transform into a vibrant venue for celebration, dance, music, and rhythmic beats on Saturday. Doesn’t that sound exciting? Presented by Astarte Studio Belly Dance & Fusion and Birds of Paradise Belly Dance, we’re invited to bring our favourite percussion instrument along to join the fun drum and dance jam before the official dance party kicks off. Musical deets are here.
Live tunes in Thirroul
Ryan’s Hotel is such a fab venue for live tunes and this weekend’s line up is Dating Kane, and Ren & The Rudeboys. It’s free entry + no umbrellas needed there. Here are the details.
Christmas prep
Well if you’re staying indoors, you may a well make it useful – Check out our Christmas hub for a countdown (that terrifies us!) and loads of great guides, like where to order your fresh Christmas tree, ham, seafood, and more festive essentials. Check it out here.
Shop, shop, shop local
We know it’s all about Black Friday Sales at the moment, but before hopping online and using your credit card like nobody’s business, consider shopping up a storm at one of our local retailers. They’re such an important part of our vibrant Illawarra community, but they do need our support. So why not choose local this weekend?
Happy weekend, friends!
