Let’s make the most of Feb by getting amongst all the goodness we’ve got lined up.

We’ve trawled through our February Events Directory and there’s so much awesomeness in one spot! – so here’s our list of absolute must-dos for this month.

Get out and about, support local and have a crackin’ good time doing it!

SATIRE-D OUT // The Wharf Revue: Pride In Prejudice

With over 23 years of political satire experience, this revue is set to be stitch-giving giggles all the way. This year’s offering is the classic and well-loved “Pride in Prejudice” yep, that’s ‘in’ not ‘and’ and we can’t wait to get ‘in’ to it.

 

SHOW UP // The 2024 Berry Show

It’s back for another year of classic country fun. See all your agricultural faves like cows, horses and goats as well as the oh-so-exciting wood chopping. There’ll also be plenty of entertainment and yummy bites like a good old-fashioned BBQ by the folks from the Rotary. Catch ya there!

 

NOICE, DIFFERENT, UNUSUAL // Kath & Kim Drag Bingo At Wollongong Town Hall

Hold on to your fascinators, hornbags, because Kath & Kim Drag Bingo is coming to town. It’s noice, it’s different, it’s unusual and you can play to win $1000 in cash and prizes. We have a feeling in our waters that this is gonna be a riot.

 

GOOD GONG // Family Fun Day; Yes2Renewables

There’s so much support for climate action around the Illawarra at the moment and this event is making it a family affair. With FREE ice cream for the kiddos, face painting, craft events, info stalls, art installations, and local climate experts around to chat, this is a great way to get the whole gang involved in learning about saving our planet. Make sure to register your spot.

 

MAMMA MIA // Queen Forever – A Night At The Theatre

Celebrate this iconic rock band at Anita’s Theatre on the 16th with this loud and proud tribute show. Get down to all the Queen hits with lead singer and impersonator Gareth Hill and his awesome band of toe-tapping musicians. Tickets are still available through Anita’s website.

WINE-D IT UP // Wollongong Women Who Wine

A fundraiser for a good cause + free-flowing wine, well sign us up! This fundraiser supporting the i98FM Illawarra Convoy and The Illawarra Community Foundation is set to be an afternoon of canapes, live music, guest speakers and a four-hour bevvie package all at The Illawarra Hotel in Wollongong.

 

RUGBY RULES // Kiama Sevens

This is the largest one-day Rugby Australia-sanctioned club tournament and it’s happening on the 24th at Kiama Showground. With over 44 teams, if you’re a fan of this fast-paced sport then this is one not to be missed. Pack a picnic and make it a whole family day out, we say.

 

ROCK ON // Illawarra Lapidary Club Inc Rock Swap

Get your hands on jewellery, gemstones, minerals, opals, beads and even fossils at this rock swap on the 25th. If you’re down for a bit of the geo collection or if you’re just a little bit of a magpie [like us] then make sure to add this to the diary.

 

TUBES OF GOODNESS // Cannoli Day 2024

To spend a whole day celebrating the gift that is cannoli feels like a second Christmas to us. Our pals at Pasticceria Massimo Papa will be blessing locals with loads of family fun aaand a cannoli eating competition. ‘Scuse us whilst we start practising to become the 2024 Cannoli Champion… which has just now become our lifelong dream.

 

WE LOVE LOVE // Lovefest Wollongong

Come together at The Esplanade in Thirroul for a love fest by the sea. With loads of cool activities like Ice Baths [very cool hehe], live music, drumming performances, fire performances, meditation and food and market stalls this is one line-up worth checking out.

LIBRARY TIME // Author Talk With Karen Viggers

Karen Viggers is known for her bestselling book ‘The Orchardist Daughter’ as well as her podcast ‘Secrets from the Green Room’. She’s recently released a new novel ‘Sidelines’ all about the behaviour of parents on the sidelines of the sporting field. A very hot topic. She’ll be at Wollongong library on the 28th to chat and if you’ve never been to an author talk at one of our amazing libraries, we highly recommend them.

 

ROMANCE IN THE AIR // Valentine’s Day

The universal day of love falls on a Wednesday this year and there are plenty of local events and venues to head to for a bit of romance and reconnection. Check out all the Valentine’s Day dinners, lunches and specials happening across the Illawarra here.

 

PROST // Schnitzel And Schnapps Night At The German Club

Fill your tummy with breaded deliciousness whilst sipping on fun and fruity schnapps. Not sure what flavour schnapps to try? Never fear the schnapps wheel is there to help you decide. There’ll also be raffles, Rockordion for entertainment and a strong-arm contest for anyone brave enough to show off their flexing skills. Prost!

 

BOWL ME OVER // Super Bowl Watch Party At Club Windang

Slowly becoming more and more popular here in Aus, the American Super Bowl will be streamed on the morning of the 12th. Whether you’re cheering on your team or just looking for an excuse to take a Monday off work, Club Windang has you sorted with food and drink specials and a watch party in their main lounge.

 

CRAFTS AND CRAFTS // Make A Macrame Dried Flower Holder

Not just a 70’s relic you might find at your nan’s, macrame is way cool again and we’re keen to jump on the trend. Learn to make your own beautiful piece at this 2-and-a-half-hour session in Kiama on the 25th.

SWIFT-MANIA // Paint & Sip – Taylor Swift Edition

We’ve had Taylor Swift parties, Taylor Swift trivia, and NOW in the Illawarra, we’ve got a Taylor Swift-themed paint & sip experience. What’s next, a Taylor Swift-themed eye exam??!! Haha but seriously this sounds like a good time and will be happening at Wests Illawarra on the 24th.

 

LA LA LAAAAA // Learn To Sing

Ever wanted to be able to belt out a tune without sounding like you’re a distressed duck? Us too! So, here’s your chance! This 6-week course will start at Dapto Ribbonwood Centre on the 15th, but places are limited so book soon.

 

HA HA HAAAAA // Comedy At The Builders Club

After a four-year hiatus, comedy is back in The Basement Bar at The Builders Club. These monthly shows will feature some of the best Aussie comedy acts making the rounds across the country. This month prepare to get lol’d with headliner Dave O’Neill of Spicks and Specks fame as well as Madeleine Stewart, David Smiedt and Alex Jae. Tix start from $30pp and can be booked online.

 

FESTIVAL FUN // Nan Tien Temple Lunar New Year Twilight Festival

The Nan Tien Temple will be opening its doors to celebrate the Lunar New Year from 6pm on the 9th all the way to 1am on the 10th. The evening will kick off with an international vegetarian food fair, followed by a blessing ceremony, incense offering and a tolling of the bell of peace to welcome in the new year.

 

COOK UP A STORM // Three Course Vegan Cooking Class

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of eating at Balinese Spice Magic in Wollongong then you know just how incredible their food is. And if you haven’t, then what are you waiting for?! GARDEN GOOD // A Garden For Life Cultural Immersion Day

Mount Keira Scout Camp will be home to this full day of cultural activities on the 18th. This is scheduled to be a day filled with language, storytelling, art and native plants. An indigenous-flavoured lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea will also be included.

Okay let’s crown ourselves the rulers of February because at this stage our month is gonna be a royally good time!
