5 Fun Things To Do In The Autumn School Holidays

Keep The Kids Busy + Active With Our Pick Of Awesome Things To Do In The Illawarra During The April School Holidays.

They’re comin’ in hot people – love ‘em or hate ‘em, school holidays are just around the corner.

The Autumn hols are the perfect mix; they are not too short or too long, the nights are cosy, crisp autumn weather kicks in, and there’s plenty for kids to see, do, and experience around the Illawarra.

Here are five of our picks for keeping the kids busy and active these Autumn school holidays.

And head here to check out our Event Directory for loads more events, activities, classes, workshops and more.

1 :: Get Creative

Let your kiddos unleash their inner artists with a ton of artsy fun.

Black Duck Studio is running School Holiday Clay Activities like making and painting mugs, air-dry sculpting and ceramic painting. You can get the whole family involved or just leave the kids to get their hands dirty whilst you grab a [probably much-needed] cuppa.

Or if you prefer to go to the pub, The Illawarra Hotel is hosting Pizza & Paint workshops where they can create their very own masterpieces and munch down on a pizza.

And speaking of munching, we love the sound of the Decorate-a-DONUT session at Moist ‘N’ Glazed.

The Georgia Rose is also coming in clutch with their Donut Decorating Workshop, plus their Design Your Own Tote Bag and Clay Canvas Art Workshop.

For a creative and uplifting experience, check out the Growing with Confidence Camp, designed for school-aged girls to create their own vision board.

2 :: Get Golfin’

Tee off at Shanx Mini Golf in Shellharbour or Crazy Putt at the Illawarra Golf Complex, both fab spots for some healthy family competition.

If the weather isn’t playing nice take it indoors to Holey Moley Wollongong. This one is like putt-putt golf but amped up to 11! It’s bright, it’s light, it’s fun and funky and will definitely keep the kids entertained [there’s a bar for thirsty parents too, just quietly… niiiice].

For something a little different, give Footgolf in Jamberoo a go. It is exactly what it sounds like. Golf, but instead of a little ball and a putter, you are kicking a big ball down the course.

3 :: Horse Riding At Darkes Forest Riding Ranch

 Such a great way to get the kids outside, active and connected with nature!

Classes are designed especially for children, regardless of their experience with the gee-gee’s. There are barbecue and picnic facilities too so make a day of it and hang out in this lovely space at Darkes Forest Riding Ranch

They also have school holiday camps and pony rides for little ones under 6.

We see a screen-free day in our future – Yay!

4 :: Wollongong Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are always a fave for a family adventure, with playgrounds, ponds, plants, picnic spots, and, of course, a place for coffee.

These holidays, there is even more to love with the amazing Sculpture in the Garden exhibition. Eighteen sculptures will be scattered throughout the gardens, ready to be explored and enjoyed. There will also be artist tours, walk-and-talks, workshops, and kid-friendly sessions…all completely FREE.

Saving money, learning about art and nature, and making awesome memories for the kids? That is a win in our books!

5 :: Magic at Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventure

If you have not been to The Enchanted Forest at Illawarra Fly yet, it is a magical way to spark the kids’ imagination and get them out in nature. Wander through Pixie Hollow, Fairy Village, Mermaid Crescent, and more. When you are done, tie a ribbon around the Fairy Forest Ribbon Tree. Cute!

For a little more adrenaline, there is the Zipline Tour, officially the highest in Australia. Woah.

Plus, archery and the classic treetop walk, so there is plenty to keep them entertained.

Oh, and book online to save some dosh.

That should keep the kids busy and cries of ‘I’m boooored’ at bay.

And no screens – yay!
