A Guide To Homewares In The Illawarra

Which Stores To Hit Up For Some Interior Inspo + Beautiful Homewares

Our gal Dorothy had it right when she said, “there’s no place like home”.

These last few years have had us giving our homes a tougher work-out than ever before.

But with all this time indoors, no doubt things are starting to get a little worn and tired. Maybe you’re sick of staring at that same chipped teacup you were gifted by a stranger at your wedding years ago, perhaps your dining table has suffered one too many scratches from the kids dumping their school bags on it, or there’s just that space in your hallway that you have absolutely no idea what to fill with.

All gravy baby – we’ve sourced 12 ab-fab homewares stores here in the Illawarra to give your home the  jhooshing it needs.

And bonus! All of these and a ton more can be found in our Shop Local Directory. Better add that tab to your favourites, people.

1 :: 55 PARROTS Bulli

At 55 Parrots there is a great emphasis placed on respect for the makers, sustainable design and organic materials. They offer in-store and at-home consultations to help you craft an interior that is beautiful, personal and practical… everything we want in a dream home obvs. The staff here are ready to take your abode on the journey it deserves!

2 :: MAISY & CO Woonona

Maisy & Co are all about beautiful things and they have a lot to choose from. Make sure to take your time browsing their chock-a-block array of homewares and furnishings. Maybe even pick up a lil’ something for your pooch from their darling selection of pet wares as well. Nothing says ‘my house is totally put together’ like a puppy with a tartan bow tie collar playing in the backyard!

3 :: BLU EMPORIUM CORNER STORE Keiraville

In the charming suburb of Keiraville nestled amongst cosy coffee shops and tasty restaurants is this one-of-a-kind store. Whether you love that Hamptons style look that gives your bungalow the summer beachy feel all year long [boo winter], or if modern minimalism is more your thing, the lovely staff here have got you and your living room covered.

4 :: DEAR HARLO Corrimal

Dear Harlo isn’t just a clothing, accessories and homeware store, it’s a lifestyle. Think lush neutral tones, soft shapes and natural touches, all so fresh. Oh, and as a bonus, they offer free local delivery for online orders – please and thank you!

6 :: ROCOCO EMPORIUM Unanderra

If you’re a fan of the boho aesthetic then you will LOVE….like love, love Rococo Emporium. They have furniture, dining tools, home decor, lighting and even outdoor accessories. We dream of relaxing on our porch in one of the rattan swing chairs they have in stock, listening to sounds of the ocean, or at least an ocean-themed playlist. Hey Alexa, play Island in the Sun by Weezer!

The Collective Beat Kiama and The Collective Beat Gerringong is a wonderful place to shop because it is actually a collaboration between a range of small and local businesses all in one indoor marketplace. This means the space is always changing and evolving with new things to discover every time. It’s like Narnia for shopaholics and you could straight up lose yourself for hours inside – don’t say we didn’t warn you.

INDIGO ROSE HOME LIVING :: Kiama

Anyone who has been to Kiama has probably remarked on how gorgeous the Historic Terrace Houses are on Collins Street. Indigo Rose Home Living is located inside one of the houses and is just as gorgeous on the inside. Stunning eclectic pieces with an earthy vibe is what they’re all about. And for the young, and young at heart, they sell a selection of rubber ducks, that’s right the kind you put in the bath. They’re called ‘Deluxe Ducks’…. we’re particularly fond of the Diva Duck but maybe the Chef or Cowboy Duck is more your thing. Each to their own we say!

THE PICNIC SHED :: Berry

Oh Em Gee we adore The Picnic Shed! These guys dig the outdoors so much they found a way to bring some of that outdoorsy adventure feel right into your home with you!  Rustic Scandi charm at its absolute finest all nestled inside an adorable weatherboard building – this is what homeware fantasies are made of.

FEW AND FAR :: Berry

Few and Far in Berry want you to participate in the ‘Slow Shopping Experience’ and when visiting their store, we can understand why. With pieces sourced from all over the globe, you really need to take your time here to make sure you see it all! They offer at-home and online decorating support with a mood board to help you truly get a feel for how you want your home to look. If you’re coming in-store, which we totally suggest you should, you can book an in-store style meeting, to help you make plans. How incredible is that?

So, whether your pad needs a full make-over or just a little nip and tuck, head to these stores to get started. To keep the ball rolling head to our Shop Local Directory and explore even more fantastic finds.

And, once you’ve got your hands on ALL the stylish homeware goodies, we’d love you to tag us @thefoldillawarra, because the best part about buying new things is showing them off, and we wanna see them!
