Planning Your Easter Long Weekend In The Illawarra

10 Things To Do In The Illawarra This Easter Long Weekend

Easter is but a bunny-hop away and we’ve come up with 10 egg-cellent ideas to keep you, the family and any visitors, busy and away from the four-year-old’s Humpty Dumpty smarties…

1 :: Towradgi Beach Hotel’s Annual Easter Show

This fun day on the Illawarra holiday event calendar is back in 2024 and we can’t wait!! What’s happening? Alllll the things! Dodgem cars, a Ferris wheel, a giant slide, a sideshow alley, snow cones, fairy floss and the mammal of the moment, the Easter Bunny will be there too. Fun. Fun. Fun!

2 :: Cupcake And Cookie Decorating At The Rosy Lea Cafe

Let your little ones get creative as they decorate a cupcake and a cookie at this lovely little Primbee cafe on Good Friday. There are two sessions running and tickets are only $15. We think this is a wonderful way to get little ones into the Easter spirit and also keep them entertained with some hands-on fun.

3 :: Easter Art Festival At 130 Art Studios

We’re excited to hear all about 130 Art Studios’ first-ever Easter Art Festival. Over the 30th and 31st at the gallery, there will be exhibitions, live music, markets and creative workshops. From indigenous textiles to calligraphy, graffiti sketching and UV artwork – all of the Saturday workshops sound so fun and interesting. On Sunday the music will be live, local and loud… so looking forward to it!

4 :: Easter Sunday At The Shellharbour Club

The Shellharbour Club is going all out this Easter Sunday. The Easter Bunny will be there handing out Easter Eggs, FREE airbrush tattoos for the kids, a movie screening of Peter Rabbit in the Precinct in the evening and a special Easter-style soft serve available [insert chocolatey goodness] to slurp up all day. Leading up to Easter there will also be loads of other hop-worthy events at The Shellharbour Club including a petting zoo on the 22nd, a ‘hare-raising’ roving magician on the 20th and 27th and a colouring comp running from now until the 31st. Just pop into reception to grab a sheet and the most creative entry will win a $50 kids’ gift card, cool!

5 :: Get Out And Groove

Plenty of local venues are turning up the tunes for the Easter long weekend.

Coledale RSL is hosting a Easter Sunday session on the deck with Matt Fanning thumbing out some laid-back acoustic melodies.

On Easter Thursday lively bar Heyday will be presenting UK house music extraordinaire Weiss for some foot shuffling, hand-pumping tunes.

The Tap House at Groundz Precinct in Dapto will be open from noon with live music, beer, wine and cocktails, and 2 different food trucks. We love spending an arvo shaking our hips on the lawn here.

Of course, you can always take advantage of the loooong weekend and all those opportunities for a late night and a lie-in by heading out to a local bar, club or pub with your mates for a catch-up!

Here’s a list to get you started. Remember to drink responsibly and buy local booze where you can!

6 :: Shop ‘til you hop!

The lovely Purple Leaf Collective is running an Easter pop-up stall at Dapto Mall from the 18th all the way through to the 30th, so head on down to grab some colourful Easter goodies.

Bulli Village Easter Sunday Market will be full of wonderful handmade quality artisan stalls. Grab some yummy goodies like award-winning honey-mead, gin, pasta, salamis, gelato, vegan & dairy-free desserts and delish doughnuts. There will also be pony rides, face painting, hair braiding and henna tattooing, for some extra bunny-fun.

On Easter Saturday, The Servo in Port Kembla will be holding a Coal Coast Record Fair Pop-Up. Instead of hunting for Easter eggs, why not hunt for some quality vinyl?

Check out all the other markets that will be happening over the long weekend here.

And if you love wandering through the gorgeous shops all around town, head to our Shopping Directory for some retail inspo.

7 :: Head Outdoors And Get Active

We love this time of year for getting out and about and experiencing the great outdoors – the wriggly sticks are heading off to hibernate, the mornings and evenings are crisp, cool and perfect for getting active without losing your body weight in sweat!

We recently spent a morning rambling around Blackbutt Forest Reserve and think it would be a great spot for a long weekend picnic and stroll. Or if you’re looking to get those legs pumping and heart racing check out our guide to Clover Hill Trail.

Head to our explore page for even more outdoor adventure inspo.

8 :: Pack A Picnic

The Easter long weekend is a great time to get your picnic on with the weather being [hopefully] nice and the days still [mostly] long. Here’s our recommendations for 15 top-notch spots to get your picnicking on in the Illawarra.

9 :: Good Friday Seafood Buffet At Headlands Hotel

Seafood and eat it! Oysters, prawns, chilli mussels, smoked salmon, salt & pepper squid…. the list goes on. Seriously, this spread is set to be bountiful and full of all the oceanic delicacies we can imagine. Plus, yummy salads, veg and a raspberry and pistachio praline brownie for dessert, oh yeah! Bookings will probably fill up fast so get yours in stat.

10 :: Head To A Winery

Crooked River Wines will be celebrating all long weekend with happy hour from 3pm – 4pm daily. Chill out to some live music by Cameron Littles on Saturday and enjoy some tasty bites from their onsite restaurant.

And if you’re in the mood for a wine tasting or two… or three… here’s a list of cellar doors to visit in the Illawarra.

There you go.

Something for everyone!

And you can keep an eye out for more Easter events as they pop up here.

Happy Easter, Illawarra!
