Corsage
‘Corsage’ is French for corset; the one binding Empress Elisabeth of Austria is impossibly restrictive, along with the rest of her gilded-cage life. Vicki Krieps (The Phantom Thread) is magnetic as the rebellious royal who must decide, over the course of an imagined year, how long she can bear it. Carefully deployed anachronisms remind us that these 18th Century people are really not so distant from us after all.
