Where To Sink An Irish Ale on St Patrick’s Day In The Illawarra

Celebrate The Luck Of The Irish With An Irish Frothy

Ahhhh…St Patrick’s Day. The day when everyone seems to suddenly have some distant DNA connection to the Emerald Isle!!

We love the Irish.

What with all their good luck, pots of gold and fine-tasting ale, we certainly don’t mind celebrating all things Irish on St Patrick’s Day with, for and because of them!

So, if you can’t get your hands on a pot of gold on the 17th of March, perhaps hitting up a local bar or pub to sip on an Irish Ale is gonna be the next best thing.

Here’s where to go and what to order.

Dicey Riley’s

Can’t get more Irish than spending the 17th at this iconic Illawarra Irish Pub. To say Dicey’s go all out on St Patrick’s Day would be an understatement. Festivities will be kicking off bright and early at 8am with a traditional and tasty Irish brekkie.

From 11am onwards there’ll be music, food specials and prizes for the best dressed. The black stuff will of course be flowing and entry is free.

The Mill at Dapto Leagues Club

DLC is pulling all the stops in their bar and bistro on the 17th. They’re serving up specials like shepherd’s pie, bacon and cabbage, and the classic Irish stew, along with some exciting drink options. The Emerald Isle cocktail sounds tempting, and we can’t go past the warming yummy-ness of an Irish cream coffee.

Of course, they’ll have Guinness, Kilkenny, and even some Irish whiskies to ensure the good craic all day long.

Wiseman Park Wollongong

We love this bowlo for all the fun it offers and St Patty’s day will be no different. Open from 10am expect live music, food specials and nice big pints of Guinness. They’ll also be handing out prizes for best dressed on the day so don’t forget to don your green top hat and fake orange beard.

Howlin’ Wolf Bar

The folks here plan to replace the ENTIRE back bar with Jameson on the night, that’s more than 300 bottles of Irish whisky decor…. Woah! Open from 4pm, live music will kick off at 9pm. They have tinnies of Guinness as well as cocktails and drink specials.

North Gong Hotel

North Gong are rockin’ epic live music every Sunday in March and St. Patrick’s Day is set to be an extra special live music event. Prepare for a night of indie tunes with Melbourne band Kitschen Boy alongside Sophian, King Ibis & The Milk Incident. You can sip on the black stuff as well as other food and drink specials and entry is FREE!

Always good craic at Dicey Riley’s on St Patrick’s Day

Diamond Dogs Music Lounge

Whilst not announced on the socials yet, the team here gave us the heads up that they’re in the process of organising live music for the day. They’ll also have a Guinness pie on the menu and Guinness for drinking behind the bar. Keep an eye out for more deets to come.

Beaches Hotel

Live music from 6pm, Guinness on tap and plenty of good times. We’re sure many locals will be making the most of St Pat’s at this pub in Thirroul.

Gerringong Bowlo

Always fun to swing by and chat with the locals at the Bowlo.

Just add Guinness on a Sunday for a bit more fun!

Berry Hotel

Head to the pub for some dinner [gotta go the bangers and mash if you’re sticking with the Irish theme] accompanied by some Guinness on tap.

Figtree Sports

Guinness on tap is available from the bar and live music is in the main lounge. Sorted!

Mount Kembla Village Hotel

A go-to for that cosy, local pub feel and epic meal portions from the bistro. On weekends they also knock out some tasty pizzas and have got the black stuff on tap as well.

The 19th at Wollongong Golf Club

Another cracker joint with Guinness on tap. As a bonus, on Sundays, they have their Sunday Sessions in the 1897 Garden Bar. That means live music, Tex-Mex food deals, drink specials and cocktails. There’s also a fun play area so this is a fab option if you’ve got kiddos in tow.

Get your jig on, guys.

And top of the morning to ya!
