10 Awesome Bucks Weekend Ideas In The Illawarra

Celebrate with your mates in the Illawarra

Your mate’s getting hitched – well, that’s awesome! So, what to do to celebrate and give him a memorable transition from bachelor to hubster?

Here are 10 awesome bucks night or bucks weekend ideas to keep all sorts of bachies entertained.

1 :: Racing to the aisle

Get that adrenaline pumping and that heartbeat racing with some Go Karting fun.

There are two spots where you can catch those karting thrills in the Illawarra.

Wollongong Kart Raceway is an outdoor go-karting facility in Kembla Grange with loads of different package options.

If you’re keen to go indoors, C1 Speed Electric Indoor Karting in Albion Park gives off a totally cool techno futuristic Tron vibe with all-electric karts. And even though the karts don’t actually use any petrol, there’s a decent cafe on site to keep the crew fuelled as they hit those straights and curves.

2 :: Take the plunge

Talk about a sky-high celebration. The Illawarra is one of the most incredible spots to jump out of a plane in all of Aus [maybe even the world] and we reckon this is one sure-fire way to have a memorable moment.

Check out Skydive Australia who’ve been getting locals soaring through the Illawarra skies for years or Big Wave SkyDive who are newer on the scene but still have tons of experience and rave reviews.

All that’s left is to choose the jump order…. buck first obviously!

3 :: Bros with brews

There are some mighty fine distilleries and breweries in the Illawarra.
South Coast Distillery is open on Fridays and Saturdays with top-notch specialty cocktails, tasting flights, Australian craft whiskies, gins and local beers and wines.

Tara Distillery Tasting Room + Bar is now open in Berry every weekend serving up their award-winning spirits and Wolf and Woman Distillery in Bellambi often have tasty food trucks to chomp whilst you sip.

If you’re more of a brewski bunch then head to one of our many awesome breweries around town. Check out our guide to top spots for a craft beer around the Illawarra here. We couldn’t pick just one and we doubt your gang will be able to as well.

4 :: Straight down the middle

We’ve got stacks of awesome golf courses and driving ranges dotted across the Illawarra and whoever said “golf is a good walk spoiled” obviously never spent the morning playing 18 holes at Port Kembla Golf Club.

Jamberoo Golf Club is also a good shout and has Foot Golf as well if your Linksmen would like to try something new.

For a course with a good pub feed at the end [or beginning] check out Links Shell Cove Club, and finish up your loop with a hearty meal and round of frothies at The Tavern overlooking the course.

Here’s a list of other excellent golf courses around the Illawarra.

5 :: Get your crackerjack on

There are quite a few spots around town to have a go at Barefoot Bowls. Wiseman Park in Wollongong is known for their hireable huts and tasty catering platters, perfect if you have a group of 5 or more.

Wombarra Bowlo is free from Monday to Thursday if you’re doing more of a midweek or long weekend thing.

And Windang Bowling Club includes an instructor with your booking, perfect for those more perfectionist members of your crew.

6 :: Unleash your inner Viking

Could the act of throwing axes at a target to score points be any more quintessential for a bucks party?

And you can do just that at Battle Axe Throwing in Wollongong. Book a group Battle Axe experience for a 2-hour session with your own private axe coach.

This joint is right in the centre of town so after you’re done showcasing your swingin’ skills, you can head over to one of the many Wollongong bars, clubs or pubs for a drink and a solid brag sesh about all your hits [and misses].

7 :: Get smashed

Let your buck blow off some pre-wedding nerves by going hell to leather on the smash train with a baseball bat at SmashLAB Rage Room.

Buck’s party packages are available to book here and you can even add on extra smash-ready goodies like a coffee machine, printer [Office Space style] and colour bombs to brighten up the experience.

8 :: Make a great escape

If you’ve got a brainiac bachie then an escape room experience at Breakout Bar and Escape Rooms in Wollongong is just the trick. With rooms ranging from 2 out of 5 difficulty all the way up to the renowned ‘Motel 666’ room which has a 6 out of 5 score [whooo mama], there’s plenty of challenge to be had.

Put your thinking caps on and work together to solve puzzles and escape the rooms within the hour. And just know that whether you make it out victorious or not, there are a few choice cocktails and shots waiting for the crew at the end in the bar.

9 :: Hang ten

Experience one of the Illawarra’s best outdoor features with some local surf lessons at one of our stunning beaches.

Illawarra Surf Academy offers adult surfing parties perfect for buck’s groups and has a ratio of 1:6 for instructors to make sure everyone has a turn getting on those boards. Check out our list of other Illawarra surf schools here.

We reckon this is a great option for a day activity with the mates before kicking on to a classic beach barbie in the afternoon. Gnarly brah!

10 :: Tag the buck

Archery Tag is like the adrenaline rush of paintball without the hassle of hiring a bus to get you there [oh and the pain of getting shot].

The goal is similar to Paintball – to tag opponents from the opposing team but the hit is less painful and Archery Tag Wollongong is a mobile company that’ll bring the fun to you.

Nothing says “congrats on getting married” like getting out the bows and arrows and tracking down the fellas… hunger games style!

And if you need to be ferried around [probz a good idea if a few beers, cocktails, gins and bourbons are on the agenda], here’s a list of local transport companies to help you out!
