So to help you get on the front foot this festive season, here’s a handy list of some local spots to get your seafood and ham for your Chrissy feast.

Getting to call this coastal part of the world home is just the bees knees! Especially when it comes with the added bonus of having delicious seafood right at our fingertips. Here are 5 absolute must-visit seafood spots around town to make sure your table is heaving with oceanic goodness this Christmas.

And you can also check out our Eat + Drink Business Directory for other local seafood markets and suppliers.

Shellharbour Square Fish Market

These guys have one of THE BIGGEST selections of fresh seafood in the Illawarra. You’ll find them in Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre and they also have online shopping on their website, a great option if you want to avoid the December retail madness.

There’s a huge selection of fresh fish, prawns and seafood and they even sell fresh seafood and bbq platters if you want a bit of everything.

BONUS: If you spend more than $150 online they’ll even deliver it for FREE! Chrimbo has never looked easier.

Aish’s Seafood :: Berkeley

Perched right on the lake in Berkeley, this is the place to go to get your super local lake prawns. They usually get those tasty little morsels into the shop pretty regularly but are popular so a pre-order might be the way to go.

They’re also known for top notch lobster, mud crabs and oysters plus heaps more. All their seafood is sustainably caught so you can feel at ease chomping down some Chrissy lunch.

Harbourside Fish Market :: North Wollongong

Home to some of the Illawarra’s best cooked and fresh seafood, this fish market has a wonderful selection of shellfish, and fresh fish plus their oysters are freshly shucked and absolutely divine.

If you plan to pre-order they usually have a $150 spending minimum and orders will close a week before Christmas day.

Kiama Fisheries

Right on the harbour at Kiama you can’t go wrong here. Australian Prawns, Rock and Pacific Oysters and locally caught fish yes, please!!! Kiama Fisheries knows how important seafood at Christmas truly is and usually open early and shut late on Christmas Eve – ideal if you’re a bit more of last minute Larry [or Lucy].

Harley & John’s Seafood :: Fairy Meadow

Serving top quality seafood in the Illawarra for over 30 years, Harley & John’s Seafood recently became the first independent fish market in all of NSW with a certificate MSC chain of custody. This promises that the seafood they sell can be traced to certified sustainable fisheries…. Woah great stuff guys!

They have loads of different types of prawns, crustaceans, molluscs and fresh fish and have recipes and tips on how to cook them if you’re new to the seafood game or  just feeling like trying something new. Orders will close around 21 December but keep an eye on their socials for updates.
