Adam has also worked extensively in mental health training, education and research. He currently practises in Sutherland and Wollongong.
Adam is personable in counselling style and blends compassion, validation and care with pragmatism, humour and genuineness, to suit the needs of his client and the situation at hand. Via a curious and enquiring approach, he assists his clients to understand their own individual complexity and their relationships and reflect on their experience with balance and compassion. He also assists clients in the development of practical skills, individualised to their particular needs, such as those for regulating emotions, communicating relationships needs and managing unhelpful thinking patterns.
Trained in a number of psychotherapies, Adam practices those that are well-proven in the treatment of anxiety and depression – Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Adam is also an experienced practitioner of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy (ST) which are treatments that address complex presentations, such as those involving emotion regulation difficulties, impulsive and self-harming behaviours, identity distress and problematic relationship patterns.
Adam has extensive experience providing supervision to clinical psychologists, clinical psychology registrars and provisional psychologists. He has provided secondary consultation services for highly complex cases of personality disorder and specialised training to a wide range of health practitioners on the treatment of personality disorders and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
