Grappling Bros was founded in April 2018 by Diego Barreto and Paulo de Carvalho Morand. Diego Barreto is a fourth dan black belt Judo player, 2-stripe black belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and worldwide champion. Paulo Morand is an experienced BJJ player, brown belt and coach with 20 years experience on the mats. In July 2018 we were joined by Pedro Antun Neto, black belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and black belt Judo. Pedro is a national and international competitor in both sports and brings many years teaching experience to our dojo.
Grappling Bros was born from the idea of teaching three complementary grappling martial arts – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and No-Gi, at the same gym; Wollongong’s only Full Grappling Gym.
Grappling Bros introduces a new perspective on teaching martial arts. Traditionally, students begin learning martial arts combat on their knees; real martial arts combat begins while standing. The same perspective can be applied to self-defense, the essential goal of martial arts.
Grappling Bros brings the opportunity to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and No-Gi at the same gym. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo are both evolutions of the Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. No-Gi training provides essential takedown & blocking techniques. Mixing techniques from the 3 martial arts is key to competing at the highest level.

Grappling Bros is a proud member of GFTeam (Grappling Fight Team) since its foundation by Master Julio Cesar Pereira. Grappling Fight Team is one of the top Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teams in the world.
Formerly known as Universidade Gama Filho (UGF), GFTeam has had great success in Brazil since the 1990’s. GFTeam was propelled to world wide success through a series of excellent results at an international level and the continuous production of high level grappling fighters and world champions.
Master Julio Cesar Pereira is a highly regarded Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, a 7th Degree Jiu-Jitsu Coral Belt and the founder of the GFTeam. He is also the instructor of most Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champions all over the world.
