Coledale Hospital specialises in rehabilitation and aged care services for the northern Illawarra. It has a purpose-built unit for patients with a dementia illness awaiting nursing home placement.
Coledale Hospital was opened in 1917 as a result of the efforts of local miners and townspeople who wanted a hospital to service the medical needs of local miners. The first patient was indeed a young mine worker, carried to the hospital on a stretcher with a broken leg!
This hospital is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).
