When Life Goes Full Circle!
When Eric Guilly, owner of local business Beaumont Air picked up a phone call from Holy Spirit College in Bellambi, he had one of those full circle moments.
Over thirty years ago, he’d graduated from Holy Spirit College and left the Illawarra for uni at Bathurst and then life in Sydney.
“I grew up in Figtree and went to high school at Holy Spirit College, so when they rang to talk about Beaumont Air coming in and doing some electrical work for them, I couldn’t help but smile and then tell them I was an ex-student from long ago,” laughs Eric.
Eric had never expected to return to the Illawarra but after decades in Sydney, Eric and his wife, Amberley and their three sons made the decision to leave the big smoke and run Beaumont Air from two locations in the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands – you can read more about Eric’s business story in our Behind The Biz // Beaumont Air article .
“We ended up doing electrical work at Holy Spirit College, things such as board upgrades, sorting out some light fixtures, tagging and testing and now we’re doing more work with them on a project basis,” says Eric.
“It’s been great to be back!”
Stepping back onto the grounds was quite surreal for Eric considering how much it had changed.
“It’s twice the size that it was when I was there in terms of buildings and the student population has doubled too.”
And, of course, there’s always time for a chinwag about the old days.
“I mentioned to a few of the general maintenance staff as we were working with them that I was an ex-student from the 1980’s and we compared notes about how it was back in the day and what it’s like now,” Eric says.
“It was a great experience and now we’re doing even more work for them so it will be good to go back for regular visits – lucky I’ve got good memories of the place!”
